ByApril 22 is Earth Day and a great time to look in your kitchen cabinets and see how many toxic cleaners you’re using that are polluting your home and our environment. Did you know that the average home generates over 26 pounds of toxic, hazardous waste every year ? Most of that is attributed to typical household cleaning products. What’s under your sink ? See for yourself what the National Institute of Health has to say about toxic household cleaners and see if the ones you use are on their list.
Next, check out a short video from the Rachael Ray show about ‘Green Cleaners’ and see how you can help save the environment and save money too.

- Chlorine is the chemical most frequently involved in household poisonings in the U.S. and may cause reproductive, endocrine and immune disorders.
- Degreasers may contain petroleum distillates, which can damage lung tissues and dissolve fatty tissues around nerve cells
- Glass cleaners may contain ammonia. The fumes from ammonia can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
- Oven cleaners are one of the most dangerous toxic cleaners and can cause severe damage to the eyes, skin, mouth, and throat.
- Toilet bowl cleaners are an extremely dangerous cleaning product, which can be harmful just be breathing the fumes and fatal if swallowed.

When my huisband got Asthma a few years ago, we learned that one of things we could do that would provide the most immediate relief was to get the toxic cleaners out of our home. What a difference. I wouldn’t use anything else.

I love using toxic free cleaning products. They don’t stink and they’re safe to use. The concentrated cleaners are great, because not only are they safe for the environment, but they keep hundreds of plastic bottles/containers out of the landfills!
